![]() ![]() She pronounced the most things wrong out of everyone, and bounced back and forth between boring and extremely annoying, with no inbetween. I liked New Age more than War of Souls, (which is an unpopular opinion) but that legitimately might not have been the case if literally anyone else I listed did War of Souls instead of her. I physically could not stand listening to her. The only Narrator that I thought was atrocious was Marieve Herington (War of Souls). I don't even remember my opinion on Gabra Zackman (Second Generation) being a one and done thing. Sandra Burr (Lost Chronicles) was okay, but a little annoying at the start. Ax Norman (Legends) started out not so great but got better over time. His cadence, flow, and energy were really engaging. I personally loved Paul Boehmer (Chronicles/Summer Flame) despite his occasional mispronunciations. They're using "real" actors.Īudiobooks were my primary exposure to Dragonlance until this year. You'd likely recognize some of the voices, too. I prefer the Kramer/Reading versions of everything where it's an option, but they're alright. They did a few Cosmere novels, including White Sands, which is a graphic novel. Graphic Audio is a company doing entire novels with Foley and a full cast.Seriously, I bet you could get any child to stop and listen to them, even those that claim not to like books. Also, the cast pulls off the various accents by doing things like just hiring a Scottish guy to voice the Scottish inspired characters, which is great. The stories are incredibly simple, but the audiobooks are so well produced that I doubt you'd care. They'd often have a few people singing the chorus, as described in the books, even singing in the appropriate accents. The later books went further, with music and singing. The middle books included some of the cast singing/chanting the songs. The first books were simple, just read like normal. His son voiced some of the characters, and a general cast filled out the rest, generally doing 2-3 characters each per book. Brian Jacques's Redwall series is done by a full cast.If you're a fan of audiobooks with bells and whistles, I have two suggestions. Why didn't these get turned into audiobooks in, say, 1990 when they were published? I've heard good things about Death Gate, but the first book isn't due to release until February. I realize they're not part of Dragonlance, but it's. ![]() So, have any of you tried these audiobooks? Are they worth picking up, or should I get physical copies instead?Īlso someone is producing and publishing new audiobooks from Hickman's and Tracey's works, specifically the Death Gate series, despite the novels being over thirty years old. This was a famous series of novels, written by some of the most popular YA Fantasy authors of their era, and yet they have been both poorly logged and barely purchased. ![]() I'm concerned that the reason they kept changing narrators is (quite frankly) due to their being bad. Weirder still, some "titles aren't available in my region" (Qualinesti, for one - I have no idea why, as I can get most foreign language audiobooks in the USA without issue). Moreover, I don't recognize any of these names. I don't mind the weird division of novels (I can figure that out), but a series frequently swapping narrators is almost always a bad sign, in my experience. Thing is, Audible lists over a dozen different narrators and has split the series into about twenty smaller series. I generally understand Krynn and the War/Heroes of the Lance, but (to me) these are the most interesting books as they deal with weirder events of the cosmology. I'm most interested in the three books about Lord Soth, and the series that involves the deities leaving Krynn (War of Souls, I think?). Salvatore's work, which is more than good enough for me. In my head they're on about the same tier as R.A. While Dragonlance was never my favourite DnD setting (that would be Forgotten Realms, then Ravenloft), I remember the novels (at least the first few - I think I read War of the Lance and some of the early Raistlin novels) being fairly well written. I'm a huge fan of epic fantasy, and audiobooks in general. ![]()
